Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes with Brian Mazza
I want to give you a sneak peak at a point from our next SISD with Brian Mazza. Brian is the definition of a high performer, someone who gets a lot out of himself, but that is because he expects a lot from himself. With an emphasis on getting results and an appreciation for incremental growth, Brian has adopted a very fitting motto for his fitness brand High Performance Lifestyle Training, which is nothing changes if nothing changes.
While Brian Mazza’s sweet spot is in the health and wellness space, he acknowledges the importance of this mentality in all aspects of life. His commentary on his relationship, in business, and reflecting on the wake up call he received about his father’s health, he has been able to take action to change his situation. Because guess what happens if you don’t? Nothing changes if nothing changes.

See More"Just because your path is different doesn't mean you're lost."
What happens so often is, we aren’t fair in the way we reflect on our lives, holding ourselves to expectations we don’t hold others to. So in this reflection if you feel like things don’t add up, or seem like they’re in alignment, remember this quote.
“Just because your path is different doesn’t mean you’re lost.”
Do you know why that is? This is because no two paths are the same. Everyone has their own challenges, with their own uniqueness, to their own degrees. It’s impossible to look at something at face value and know the full picture.
In addition, paying too much attention to other people actually distracts us and takes us off our alignment. It encourages us to spend our time and energy in the wrong ways, all because we attribute the details of someone else’s path to our own.
Which makes me want to touch on the final thought. This doesn’t mean you’re lost. Your path has your destination, and just because it seems like you’re walking it on your own doesn’t mean you’re going the wrong way.
“Just because your path is different doesn’t mean you’re lost.”
Let our instincts and intuition be the lighthouse that guides us home, and right where we’re mean to be.

See MoreThe Spirit of Christmas
Christmas a season for giving. Given that Christmas occurs at the end of the year, gifts almost serves as a yearly thank you for that relationship, and an acknowledgment that they have impacted your life. It’s a beautiful thing that people collectively choose to think about others, spreading love and warmth.
Then, there’s the Christmas cheer and buzz! It seems like every year Christmas, lights and decorations go up earlier than the year prior. Some people say it’s annoying, but this undoubtedly injects an energy that piggybacks off the prior point of energy of gratitude, appreciation, and reflection. The more people that buy in, the further the energy propagates, and larger the effect.
Then finally and more subtly, Christmas is a season of community. The secret Santa, the white elephants, and the holiday parties all create moments that bring people together. People of old, people of new, and people you haven’t met before. It’s a time that builds bridges between friend groups and communities, creating a friendly and cheerful environment to do so.

See MoreConsistency Builds Momentum with Brad Hart
Lets bring back an extremely important point. We talk a lot about the idea, and mentalities, and tactics of personal development, which is great and the education is really important, but when it comes to implementing it there are definitely some best practices.
Of course, taking action is huge, but that’s not the full story. It’s about taking consistent action. And that’s the message that Brad Hart, an impact entrepreneur and mentor of mine, has for us.
It’s all about keeping momentum high!

See MoreDon't Skip a Step
Have you ever had a big project or errand to run, and you start thinking about how, maybe, you could do something a little different and get it done quicker? You could call it cutting corners, skipping a step, trimming the fat, whatever it is, think twice first.
Don’t skip a step. When you do, you essentially are prioritizing your short term efficiency over your long term investment. Skipping a step is placing more value in the destination than the journey, which compromises the growth and learning you experience while you’re on your path. It’s about building a foundation that you can safely use to grow upon, rather than constructing a tall building for the view at the top, that just might tip over.
This requires an awareness for the process, and an understanding that the small components are fundamentals not inconveniences. To be an effective leader you need to have a competency in the small tasks to be able to manage those who are performing them. The only way you can ever acquire that knowledge is by being a practitioner who learned it in the first place.
There are things in life that you can fake. You can go through the motions, and get the job done without anyone noticing any change in execution. But when you do that, you’re cheating yourself and teaching yourself that you’re not worth the time and energy.
Don’t skip a step, don’t take shortcuts, it’s a long game but it’s one that will be worth it in the end.

See MoreThe Difference is Larger at the Top
I wanted to dive into making it to the top and the path that takes you there. What I hear and have come to understand is, the higher you go, the bigger the difference is.
Think of it like the Richter scale and how we measure earthquakes by assigning each earthquake a number 1-10. As the numbers get larger on the scale the earthquake gets more severe. But, it doesn’t stop there, it’s not a linear progression, each number actually grows in scale by a magnitude of 32. So, a level 8 earthquake isn’t twice as big as a level 4 earthquake, but it is 128 times as big!
The same goes for accruing wealth. To become a millionaire you need to acquire $1000 1000 times. To be a billionaire you need to acquire $ 1 million one thousand times. That is exponentially more difficult.
I believe the same to be true about our skill-set, work performance, and personal growth. It’s relatively easy to get good at something, but then it requires a ton of work to become great at it. The gap you need to make up to reach the next magnitude or tier is larger than the work you’ve put in to date. This is probably why the individuals who have the most coaches are at the highest level. I’ve been blown away to learn about how many coaches people like Darren Hardy and Tony Robbins have. And an important part with that is patience. To make a major amount of progress, you need to be patient and trust that your are making your way in the right direction.
The work doesn’t stop once you near the top. That’s where it is only beginning if you want to continue separating yourself from the pack, and you need to stay consistent and persistent as you continue along!

See More"Every day is a fresh start."
“Every day is a fresh start.”
It’s kind of crazy thinking about what a day even is. Our days are dictated by our planets’ rotation. Creating alternating periods of light and dark based on when it is facing the sun. We have evolved to work within these natural parameters. As much as we say time is a convention and man made concept, there is some truth to the natural cycles we experience because of it.
Every day is the beginning of a new cycle, “every day is a fresh start.”
So what can we do as a fresh start? Well, on a daily basis we get inundated with layers. Some negative layers caused by stress, labor and tedious tasks. As well as some positive layers due to great moments, big wins, and growing relationships. When we wake up every morning we can shake off these layers and build our environment from the ground up.
But what about those positive layers that you enjoy so much? Well that’s where a good morning practice of expressing gratitude comes in. Gratitude allows you to reflect on previous happenings, paint them in a positive and appreciative light, and coat yourself with that first initial layer that will set the tone for the rest of the day.
How privileged are we that we to even have another day? Let’s make the most of this new chance and fresh start.

See MoreAre You Creating Confidence Or Chipping Away At It with Heather Monahan
Heather Monahan’s story about discovering and rediscovering confidence is something we all can relate to. She has a philosophy about confidence that positions it as a dynamic quality. Everything you do is either adding to or taking from your confidence, or as she says it, are you creating confidence or chipping away at it.
If you missed it, definitely go back and check out Heather and my SISD conversation.

See MoreControlling Our Internal Messaging
The power of your internal messaging is a fascinating part about our psyche is that it is responsive to the thoughts we feed it and produces outcomes as a result of that input. It’s similar to the idea of when we force a smile we still release positive neurotransmitters that then contribute in lifting our mood. So, knowing that our brains are strongly influenced by our internal messaging, what can we do about it?
Well, we can control it, which takes me back to this point about my cold that I have been experiencing. Notice how I am not calling myself sick. I am not sick. I do not feel sick, and I am not being kept from doing exactly what I want to do. What you are hearing in my voice is the effect the cold is having on my presentation, which sure is inconvenient, but it doesn’t hold any real power over me.
With this messaging, I am choosing to frame the symptoms I am experiencing in a way that is under my control. In doing so, my psyche is answering that prompt, realizing my body overall is unaffected, and is helping me to stay motivated and on task, with high-energy.
A powerful example shared in a previous tip was the way Josh Perry talked about when he had brain tumors. When he spoke about it, internally and externally, he called them “the” brain tumors not “my” brain tumors, because he didn’t want to get complacent in accepting them as part of his being.
It takes time, but being intentional about the messaging we feed our brains has the opportunity for great downstream impact in our psychology.
