Truthbumps

Listen Now:

One of the craziest sensations is getting goosebumps. We’ve learned that our body is designed to get goosebumps when we get cold as a way of helping our hair insulate our skin, but we get them for many more reasons.

When something eerie happens it sends a shiver down our spine. When we experience deja vu or some other full circle moment, you feel a buzz through your body. But the one that is most fascinating to me is when we encounter the truth.

Getting goosebumps is one of the ways our body tells us something. It’s a physical manifestation of our intuition trying to surface. Like a programmed truth-detecting system, when we witness the truth, or the truth is revealed to us, our bodies want to make it known and send us a clear sign.

We call these truthbumps.

What this all suggests is that our intuition and inner knowing exists at an unconscious level. It doesn’t live in our rational thinking so it needs to find other outlets to get our attention. Under all the rationalizing and reframing the mind attempts to do is a core and embodied truth.

But just knowing what’s right, or within integrity, or surfacing as intuition doesn’t guarantee your behavior will align with it. The Knowing-Doing gap, getting in the way of converting our best intentions into real action, is larger than we’d expect. Just because we know what we should do doesn't mean we’ll do it, especially when you have an awareness that encourages you to do something new or uncomfortable.

Bridging that gap is a much larger question, one that I’m writing a book about right now, but here’s what you should focus on in the short term:

When you feel your higher self coming through - Whether it’s mentally through unexplainable conviction or physically through truthbumps - take the message seriously. The more you act on your higher calling the better you’ll be able to hear it, and the more aligned your life will become.

Brian Johnson, founder of Heroic, calls out when he gets goosebumps knowing they’re truthbumps. And it happens often. Mid sentence when he talks about his mission, is teaching on a topic central to his philosophy, or reflects on a powerful moment from his past - he gets goosebumps.

I believe that’s because he’s developed the skill of hearing the whispers of his higher self. He has oriented his entire life around them, so they come often. The same is possible for me and you too.
