Just In Time Information

Listen Now:

I heard something from Pat Flynn that completely changed my perspective around consumption and content. I have a history of being a personal development junkie where I always had a podcast in my ear and a book on my nightstand. I figured that learning more was going to be my ticket to improving my life.

What I ended up experiencing was quite different. While I knew so much about so many things, I wasn't actively applying it in my life and because of that, my reality wasn't changing. I felt entitled to getting a certain result, but looking back at it now, I wasn't doing what it took to actually create it.

Here is the distinction I'm alluding to: There's a difference between ‘Just In Case’ information and ‘Just In Time’ information. ‘Just In Case’ information is more knowledge about things that aren't immediately relevant in your life. It's good to know, but it's not useful.

Compare that to ‘Just In Time’ information where you learn exactly what you need to know when you need to know it. It is the perfect piece of advice and content that addresses the biggest constraint you're experiencing right now.

People often make the mistake that learning is productive. They feel like it aids them in making progress. But that’s only the case when you apply what you’re learning. And like it did for me, it sets so many people up for disappointment.

The next time you workout, go for a walk, are driving in the car, or doing whatever you do where you have a podcast in your ear… You have two productive options: consume ‘Just In Time’ information that lends perspective to or helps solve a real problem in your life, or do it in silence.

Emptiness and silence have been an incredible tool for me recently. I’ve been allowing my intuition to fill my thoughts as I brainstorm ways to move forward through problems. It has given me some much needed space to really contemplate and get answers I wouldn’t have been able to hear had something else been playing in the background.
