Being A Soundbite Champion

Listen Now:

This is something that people who are deeply invested in their self-growth and personal development don’t talk about, but feel deeply. And as someone who is exactly that - who has built a platform where I teach about self-improvement - this is absolutely true for me too.

You’ve heard the same things over and over again: Have a growth mindset, consistency is key, take imperfect action, choose abundance over scarcity, create your own definition of success, environment is stronger than will-power, overcome your limiting beliefs… Does that all ring a bell?

I bet over time you’ve come to know these things so well that now you teach other people about it too. And that’s the word of warning I want to give.

Don’t be a soundbite champion.

It’s easy to give good advice… What’s way more difficult (and more important) is to actually live it.

Bob Proctor calls it the “Knowing-Doing Gap”, and bridging this gap is what I’ve dedicated my life to. I’ve become obsessed with behavior change and helping people actually do all the things they know they need to do to change their life.

And that’s because it’s what I needed. For years I was a personal development junkie who would consume and learn and be so knowledgeable externally, but internally felt like a fraud because I didn’t have the results to match.

Even as I was starting the podcast, I had millions of listens and was becoming a thought leader on the topic, yet I couldn’t figure out how to use all of the advice I was giving to change my own life.

I was a soundbite champion. And you know what I learned about it?

Saying the right things can be helpful, but modeling transformation creates an unbelievably greater impact. The last 5 years have been a process of developing and refining my own systems, and improving my ability to put everything I was learning into practice.

And once I did, the lens shifted. No longer was it about looking like I knew what I was talking about, but walking the walk. And doing has put me on the path to take my life, my impact, and my influence further than talking about it ever could.

Soundbites are a crutch. They make you feel good about yourself and your knowledge, but they lack substance. And that’s not a life I want for you - I want you to actually make your dreams come true!
